One of the leading figures in the Swedish design movement behind the concept of Swedish Modern was Gustaf Axel Berg (1891-1971). Better known as GA Berg.
He was concerned with optimal sitting and had performed anatomical studies. During the 1930s / 40s, this resulted in a number of laminated chairs. Including the Torparen and Husmoderen. Despite the attention, GA Berg never managed to reach the large masses.
A few years after GA Berg died, renowned furniture manufacturer Bröderna Andersson launched a new furniture line - Swedish Modern. The models were designed by Gösta Berg and Inge Andersson, famously inspired by GA Berg's laminated chairs.
