The iconic chrome cantilever 'Cesca' stool was designed by Marcel Breuer in 1928. Produced in Italy by Gavina for Knoll.

'Cesca' chairs are still exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In the 50’s Dino Gavina, a furniture manufacturer in Foligno, Italy, started making the chair with Breuer’s permission. The name also changed; its namesake is Breuer’s daughter Francesca, or Cesca.

It was Dino who named the chair after her. In 1968, Knoll Associates, now the Knoll Group , bought the Gavina factory.
